PRODUCING CBD OIL
CBD oil is extracted from hemp plants. (CBD oil can also be produced from marijuana plants but generally contains higher levels of THC and is, therefore, considered a Schedule 1 drug under the Controlled Substances Act.)
The first essential oils extracted from the hemp plant are considered raw hemp extract. This raw hemp extract is then filtered and distilled to remove unwanted compounds like plant waxes and chlorophyll. This process produces various oils differing in purity and content. These oils at this stage are referred to as CBD concentrate or distillate.
Full Spectrum CBD Oil
Full spectrum CBD oil contains a 'full' spectrum of the beneficial cannabinoids and terpenes from the hemp plant, including THC. THC is the active ingredient highly present in marijuana that produces a 'high' or feeling of intoxication; however, by law, the THC levels from hemp must be less than 0.3%. Full spectrum CBD is thus often referred to as whole-plant CBD extract.
Although THC levels below 0.3% are considered non-psychoactive (generally won't make you feel 'high'), they could result in a false positive drug test especially if full spectrum CBD oil is consumed regularly in large doses. Many consumers who use CBD prefer to consume products with all the benefits of CBD but with only trace amounts of THC or without any THC at all. For these reasons, Serenity Mountain Foods does not offer or sell full spectrum CBD products but does offer and sell Broad Spectrum CBD Oil and edible and food products containing CBD Isolate.
Broad Spectrum CBD Oil
Broad spectrum CBD oil is very similar to full spectrum CBD oil with one key difference. Full spectrum CBD oil, as mentioned above, retains the original concentrations of beneficial cannabinoids and terpenes found in the raw hemp extract, including THC. Broad spectrum CBD oil contains all the beneficial cannabinoids and terpenes as well except it also has all the THC extracted. Thus, broad spectrum CBD oil is ideal for those who want no THC in their CBD oil. All Serenity Mountain Foods CBD Oils are Broad Spectrum CBD Oils.
CBD Isolate
CBD isolate is up to 99% pure CBD in a crystalline solid or powder form - pure, 'isolated' CBD. An extraction process is used to remove all the active compounds from the hemp plant followed by a refinement process that strips out all the remaining phytocannabinoids and plant matter. What's left is CBD in its purest form.
Unlike CBD oil, which can have a strong 'earthy' taste (especially unflavored CBD oils), CBD isolate has no taste or aroma associated with it. Its the most readily available form of CBD for use in edibles and foods providing all the benefits of pure CBD without affecting taste or odor of the products. CBD isolate is also incredibly easy to measure, ensuring extremely accurate and consistent amounts used in the production of CBD foods and edibles.
Serenity Mountain Foods uses CBD isolate in our CBD Hot Cocoa Mixes and in our CBD Almond Butter (infused in MCT oil) to reap all the benefits of CBD isolate as noted above.
